This beautiful gemstone ring has one of the rarest and newest garnet discoveries: The 'bishop' garnet. This garnet is a color-shifting garnet, meaning that the color changes with incandescent lighting to a related color in the same color palette. In this gemstone's case, it shifts from royal purple to raspberry.
We designed a setting in solid 18K white gold adorned with a halo of colorless diamonds. This is truly a rare, spectacular gemstone ring, and only from California Girl.

More about Bishop Garnets
Purple (Bishop) Garnet is a rare hybrid garnet found in East Africa. The finest material, from Mozambique, has an amazing vivid purple hue with red flashes (like this one). These rare gems display a color shift from beautiful purple in daylight to red/magenta with red and purple flashes under incandescent lighting and candlelight.
Spectrometry showed that the material was a pyrope-almandine garnet with minute amounts of grossular and spessartite garnet.
The Mozambique deposit currently resides in a dangerous and unstable region that has now been closed to mining.
