- 17.8 tcw Garnet Pendant with 14K Gold Chain
Product Description
We designed this pendant of rare Garnets in solid 14K yellow gold with an 18" yellow gold chain.
The Garnets are the best grade and of two different garnet species. The top garnet (the smallest) is an Imperial Hessonite Garnet. It is a golden yellow and cut in a trillion shape. The second garnet is a 'Fanta' orange Mandarin Spessartite Garnet cut in a round brilliant shape. The third garnet is an oval deep Mandarin Spessartite Garnet cut in a brilliant oval shape. The bottom (and largest) is a red Hessonite Garnet cut in a square cushion shape. The four Garnets are different sizes, different shapes, and the colors go from golden yellow to orange to deep orange to orange/red complementing all skin tones. The gold bail is tucked in back of the top gemstone.

NOT YOUR GRANDMOTHER'S GARNET
In the large and varied garnet family of gemstones, there are six common varieties that are recognized based on their chemical composition: pyrope, almandine, spessartite, grossularite, uvarovite and andradite. There are also some mixed hybrid members, such as rhodolite garnet, which is a mixture of pyrope and almandite.
Mandarin Spessartite Garnet is one of the most prized garnets with gem collectors. It's spectacular orange color is extraordinary. Unfortunately, the mines for the best Mandarin Garnet (Namibia) have been depleted, and no more material has come from there.
